In the Goldman equation, Ki and Nai are on the top of the equation ratio, but Cli is on the bottom. Why?

Summary:
State the important principles that you have discovered in working with the Goldman equation using the Nernst/Goldman simulator.

Answer #1

Ans .(i) Because the Cl- ions are actually reversed - the " inside " term is on the top and " outside " term is on the bottom - this happens because chloride is a negative ion , so it has the reverse effect on the voltage potential.

(ii) Goldman equation is an equation used to calculate the electrical equilibrium potential across the cell membrane in the presence of more than one ions taking into account the selectivity of membrane's permeability. It is derived from the Nernst equation.

4) Recall that after the Na+ channels open the K+ channels open. Again to make the calculations relatively simple, solve the Goldman equation again with all resting conditions EXCEPT a 100 fold increase in potassium permeability. (2 points) [Hints, first, while I always stress the importance of units, in this case the simplified equation uses lumped constants (RT/F) and thus the units are factored in – so you can, this time, ignore the units. Second, remember that Cl- is a...

5) A new drug has been discovered that completely opens the voltage-gated potassium channels. If this drug is used experimentally on an isolated axon, the membrane potential can be easily measured. Assume that this experiment provided the following results. The extracellular Na+ is 145 mM and the extracellular K+ is 4mM, the measured membrane potential in the presence of the drug is -94mV. Using this information, calculate the intracellular K+ concentration. To solve this equation, you will need to use...

Using the internet as a resource What do you think are the top three components that must be included in an HRIS database? For example, do you think an Applicant Tracking module is a vital component? Or maybe you think a mobile app component is more important. Why did you select those top three (3) components? How could an HR professional use the information from each of the three (3) components you selected to enhance or improve upon their current...

Turn the bottom light off and allow the waves to dissipate. Next, turn on the light at the top and allow the simulation to run for exactly the amount of time measured. Record the “state of the wave” at your marked point. Is it a trough, a...
