Briefly describe the processes carried out in the Motor System. Include in your answer how do the following components contribute in carrying out the processes of the Motor System: sensory and motor pathways, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, basal ganglia, brain stem, thalamus, receptors and skeletal muscles.
for non-biology student plz :)
A nerve impulse is carried out in a two-way mechanism.
Conduction of nerve impulse from peripheral to the brain for
processing the information (Sensory
conduction) and output that is the effect that needs
to be carried out by effector's muscle is known as
motor nerve conduction.
Suppose your doctor hits the patellar region of the knee with a
hammer you will instantaneously jerk your knee. The impulse is the
hitting of the hammer which is perceived by the sensory nerve
especially the stress receptor. The information is carried along
the axon of the neuron to the spinal cord to the interneuron region
i.e. the grey matter of the spinal region where the action needed
to taken is immediately processed through dorsal root ganglion and
reaches the motor neurons connected to the muscle of knee and as a
result jerk is produced. This is a case of simple reflex
action.
