Question

Describe the coupling of unfavorable process to favorable process, feature Alcohol dehydrogenase.

Describe the coupling of unfavorable process to favorable process, feature Alcohol dehydrogenase.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. # Coupling of an Endergonic reaction: Alcohol dehydrogenases (yeast ADH) catalyzes the conversion of alcohol (ethanol) into aldehyde (formaldehyde) with a dG0’= +23.6 kJ/mol. This reaction is ENDERGONIC and NON-spontaneous due to positive value of dG0’.

The endergonic reaction can be coupled to ATP hydrolysis (dG0’= - 30.5 kJ/mol), a highly exergonic reaction.

The overall coupled reaction becomes EXERGONIC and spontaneous because it’s dG0’ is negative.

# The coupling of reaction is summarized as follow-
