what contribution did jean baptist Lamarck make to Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection

Answer #1

Lamarck was the 1st to propose how gradual transformation of a species can take place by using his Use and Disuse theory. He proposed with the help of example of Giraffe that because of extensive streching of neck og giraffes for acquiring leaves from tall trees, the neck gradually got extended as the long necked giraffe was naturally selected due to high rate of survival ( because higher capability to acquire food),

So he pointed out how environment introduces changes in a living organism to make it better suited to survive. According to him organisms start of simple and due to complexity of its environment its own complexity increases.

So natural selection of darwin is a continuous phenomenon but it is not blindly directed.
