Contrast the two mechanisms of transcription termination in prokaryotes (describe both processes).

Contrast the two mechanisms of transcription termination in prokaryotes (describe both processes).

Homework Answers

Answer #1

There are two mechanisms of transcription termination in prokaryote -Rho-independent and Rho-dependent.

Rho-independent termination -it is intrinsic termination. It consist of terminator sequence within RNA that signal RNA polymerase to stop. In it a stem loop hairpin structure is formed which leads to dissociation of RNA from DNA template.

Rho-dependent termination-in it protein factor Rho is used to stop RNA synthesis .It binds on RNA strand. It destabilize the interaction between template and mRNA ,thus release the newly synthesized mRNA.
