  1. Provide the location and overall equation for each of the following steps:
  1. Glycolysis
  1. Pyruvate oxidation
  1. Citric Acid Cycle

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. Glycolysis :-

Location -: glycolysis occurs in the cytosol of the cell.

Overall reaction -:

Glucose + 2 NAD+ + 2ADP + 2Pi → 2Pyruvate + 2 NADH + 2 H+ + 2 ATP.

2. Pyruvate oxidation :-

Location -: pyruvate oxidation takes place in the mitochondrial matrix.

Overall reaction -:

1 Pyruvate + 1 NAD+ + CoA → 1 Acetyl-CoA + NADH + CO2 + H+

3.Citric acid cycle :-

Location -: citric acid cycle occurs in the mitochondrial matrix.

Overall reaction -:

2Acetyl CoA + 6NAD+ + 2FAD + 2ADP + 2Pi + 6H2O 4CO2 + 2NADH + 6H+ + 2FADH2 + 2ATP + 2CoA

What is a correct statement of beta-oxidation compared to citric acid cycle steps? A. Both pathways include two NAD+   ⟶ NADH steps B. Neither pathway reduces electron carriers. C.   Both pathways demonstrate a pattern of dehydrogenation, hydration, and a second dehydrogenation. D. Fatty acid acyl-CoA correlates with fumarate - both commence a dehydrogenation step. E. The chemical logic of the steps of beta-oxidation mirror the steps of malate⟶ citrate ⟶ pyruvate ⟶ oxaloacetate

Description: In order to go from glycolysis to the citric acid cycle we first must harvest pyruvates into acetyl CoA’s. This process involves many small steps which result in the main entrance in the citric acid cycle Instructions: For this presentation, your goal is to walk the audience through every step that is involved in generating acetyl CoA from Pyruvate. Be sure to focus on any cofactors need and show how this process is reset at the end to allow...
