Give details on the mechanisms that ensure cell division occurs in the correct place and give examples of the outcomes of those systems failing
There are 3 cell cycle check points by which cell division is regulated. The progression of the cell is decided at the checkpoint. These check points are present at G1, G2 and M . At G1 checkpoint any damage to DNA & other external factors are evaluated. The replication process get ensured at G2 checkpoint. M checkpoint deytemines that whether all the chromatids are correctly attached to spindle microtubule. These checkpoints are made up of proteins called cyclin dependent kinase. Failure of these checkpoints will lead to the stoppage of cell cycle. Cell will try to complete DNA replication or repair the damaged DNA. If the damage is irreparable then cell will undergo death or apoptosis.
