Reproduce 8 spores in a productive structure?

A. Ascomycota

B. Basidiomycota

C. Zygomycota

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans.

A. Ascomycota

Explanation :

In Ascomycota sexual reproduction takes place by gametangial copulation, gametangial contact, somatogamy or spermatization.

The product of sexual reproduction is the ascospores, grown inside the ascus which is a sac like structure.

General steps of ascospores formation :-
1. Two compatible cells come close to each other.
2. Those two cells undergo plasmogamy, then karyogamy, and then a zygote will form.
3. The zygote containing cell form an ascus mother cell.
4. The diploid nucleus undergoes first meiotic division followed by single mitotic division, results in the formation of 8 nuclei. The nuclei along with some cytoplasm form 8 ascospores.

In Basidiomycota 4 haploid basidiospores are produced.

In Zygomycota one zygospore is produced.

Hence, the answer is A. Ascomycota.
