What is the total number of different kinds of genotypes that are possible among offspring if the following two parents are crossed, assuming that the genes for each trait are found on different chromosomes?

FfRrHhGG x FFRrHhgg

Do a Punnett square for each gene on SCRAP PAPER, but *NO* branch diagram is necessary because I am NOT asking for what all the possible genotypes are – just the number of different genotypes.

SHOW MATH:

ANSWER: ________

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Number of genotypes produced when Ff is crossed with FF= 2

Ff and FF

Genotypes produced when Rr and Rr crossed.

RR, Rr and rr

Genotype produced when Hh and Hh crossed

HH, Hh, hh

Genotype product when GG and gg crossed.

Gg

Above are the number of possible genotypes that are produced.

When we multiply all the above genotypes we will get the number of overall genotypes produced when FfRrHhGG x FFRrHhgg is crossed.

So possible number of genotypes will be 2*3*3 *1 = 18 types of genotypes

Tallness (T ) in snapdragons is dominant to dwarfism (t ), while red (R ) flower color is incompletely dominant to white (R' ). The heterozygous condition results in pink (RR' ) flower color. The genes for these traits occur on separate chromosomes. Probability and Genetics Lab In heredity, we are concerned with the occurrence, every time an egg is fertilized, of the probability that a particular gene or chromosome will be passed on through the egg, or through the sperm, to the offspring. As you know, genes and chromosomes are present in pairs in each individual, and segregate as they go into the gametes (egg and sperm). There are two possible genes (alleles) that the egg or sperm might obtain from each...
