Are the following questions true or false? If false, please provide an explanation.

a) The oligonucleotides, (5') AGACTGGTC (3') and (5') TCTGACCAG (3'), could hybridise and form a double-stranded structure.

b) The overall equation for the catabolism of glucose via cellular respiration is: C6H12O6 +6O2 ?6CO2 +6H2O+Energy(ATP).A total of 75%of the ATP molecules synthesised in this metabolic pathway are derived from oxidative phosphorylation via the electron transport chain.

c)An enzyme that catalyses a forward reaction also catalyses the reverse reaction.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a.) It is False because to make hybrid of double stranded structure it need to be complimentary to each other from opposite ends.It means the 5' side will overlap on 3' end and makes bond if both sequences will be complimentary i.e. Adenine with thymine and Guanine with Cytosine.

B.) This statement is true beacuse most of the ATP molecules produces during oxidative phosphorylation of electron transport chain.

C) In general most of enzymes carry the forward reaction where reactant give rise to product in enzyme presence. It means A+B -> C+D in presence of enzyme X. Their are rare enzymes who carries reverse reaction. So this statment is false beacuse most of enzyme carry forward reaction
