In a scientific study:

Select one or more:

a. neither the independent or dependent variable is controlled by the scientist

b. the dependent variable is controlled by the scientist

c.

both the independent and dependent variable are controlled by the scientist

d. the independent variable is controlled by the scientist

Answer #1

Option D

In an experiment, there are two variables independent variable and dependent variable. Independent variable is the one which is controlled by the researcher. The researcher is able to manipulate the value of independent variable. Independent variable is always plotted on the x-axis.

Dependent variable is the one which is dependent upon the value of independent variable. If the value of independent variable will change, the value of dependent variable will also change. It is always plotted on the y axis.

If a moderator variable moderated the relation between the independent variable and the dependent variable in a study, how does the p-value change? If the p-value when the moderator is present is larger, does that mean the moderator variable weakened or strengthened the relationship between the independent variable and dependent variable?

Suppose two variables are inversely related and graphing the dependent variable versus the independent variable gives a straight line. Does the line have a negative or a positive slope? Explain your answer. This question falls within the topic of graphical analysis of one-dimensional motion. A. The line will have a positive slope because the dependent variable increases with the increase in independent variable. B. The line will have a negative slope because the dependent variable increases with the increase in...

Select two variables, one independent variable and the other the dependent variable. Explain the cause and effect the relation between the two. What will be your expectation of the results of this investigation?

In controlled comparison research, the observed relationship between an independent variable (X) and a dependent variable (Y) may be caused by some other, uncontrolled compositional difference (Z). So, we always ask, “How else, besides the independent variable, are the groups I am comparing not the same?” For the hypothesis below, do the following: (i) Think up a plausible alternative causal variable. (ii) Describe how this variable might affect the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. In a...

Select the statement that is true. The independent variable is only used in the independent t-test and the dependent variable is only used in the dependent t-test. The independent t-test is never used in a calculation with more than two groups or sets of data. Independent means that the independent t-test is not related to any other type of t-test. The matched pairs t-test will usually have greater variance than the independent t-test when using the same variables.
