Discuss how experiments, including those using biosynthetic and insensitivity mutants, have implicated the gibberellins in the control of stem elongation.
Gibberellins are plant growth hormones which plays a major role in controlling the stem elongation. The gibberellins are diterpenoid acids which are synthesized by the terpenoid pathway in the plants taking place in the plastids which is later modified in the endoplasmic reticulum and cytosol. There are many experiments that have shown that on addition of the gibberellins, it helps in stem elongation. On comparing two experiments, one with and other without gibberellins it was found that the media with gibberellins promoted the growth and elongation of the stem. However it was also found that excess gibberellins inhibited the growth of the stem
