The synthetic genome was being conducted with the help of yeast biologists and computational biologists.

The target sequence which was a computer file was segmented into smaller pieces which were eventually synthesized chemically. Thus in this way electronic information is used to make physical DNA molecules which were assembled to form larger pieces of DNA molecules. Formation of these larger and larger pieces involve replacing the wild type chromosome by its synthetic counterpart.
