Summarize and explain ALL the 3 major trends in mammalian evolution (Differentiation of Teeth, Increased Brain Size, Longer internal development).

Ans . MAMMALIAN EVOLUTION

1) Differentiation of teeth :- Among them simple triangular teeth seem to be ancestral to the molars of tertiary mammals. Modernized triangular teeth with three main cusps first appeared in cretaceous period. From the paleocene onward teeth provide important evidence concerning the evolution of mammalian lineages.

2) Increased brain size :- The factors that contributed to increased brain size is social complexity, foraging strategies, symbolic communication,capabilities for other culture - mediated behaviours etc.

3) Longer internal development :- A major development in the evolution of mammals was placentation, internal development of foetus and protracted care after birth to ensureinfant survival to reproductive age.
