Carbon Dioxide is very important in ocean acidification. Why? Why is ocean temperature increasing. Explain.
Absorption of atmospheric carbondioxide and its conversion to carbonic acid by seawater results in a chemical reaction with increased hydrogen ion concentration and decreased carbonate ions. This makes the seawater acidic along with difficulty in calcification of certain marine organisms. Thus, ocean acidification is causing deprive in such important minerals affecting the shell formation of organisms. Burning of fossil fuels and industrial pollution rise the carbondioxide levels thereby making air and sea temperatures to increase, an global warming effect. In addition, ocean acidification is one of the effects of increased carbondioxide, causing a serious harmful effect on marine life.
