Homology is the existence of common ancestry between a pair of
structures or genes. Convergent evolution is the existence of
different ancestry between a pair or structures or genes.
Homology occurs by developing homologous structures. Convergent
evolution occurs by developing analogous structures.
Homologous structures have similar morphology but different
functions, while analogous structures have similar functions but
different morphology.
Examples of homology includes beaks of Darwin finches, the arm
of a human, the wing of a bird or a bat, the leg of a dog and the
flipper of a dolphin etc.
Examples of convergent evolution includes wings of insects,
birds, pterosaurs, and bats etc.
