Explain why plant growth may be affected in a saline soil.
Plants obtain most of their water from the soil and when that water increases un salinity it takes the plant more energy to draw it up through its roots and the plant sometimes can dehydrate even there is water available because it can nto keep up with the effort required to replinish its water supply.
Salt sensitive plants are less able to uptake water from saline soils and can becoms water stressed . A nother way plants can injured is when sodium, chloride or sulfate levels become toxic and cause nutrient imblance with potassium and calcium.
Salt tolarent plants respond to saline soils differently than salt sensitive ones. some salt tolerantplants simply do not uptake excess salts, otherwise uptake excess salts but they excrete them through leaves, still others store excess salts in cells.
