Describe how an ester linkage (bond) is formed
Give an example of a complex lipid. What is the significance of a phospholipid?
How are steroids different from triglycerides?
Ans) Ester linkage bond:
Complex lipids are the esters of fatty acids which involve other group with alcohol and carboxylic acid. Example of complex Lipid is glycolipid.
Significance of Phospholipid: it protect the cell by providing barrier in the membrane of the cell. It provides the pathway across the membrane for different substance .
Difference between steroids and triglycerides:
Steroids act as a hormone in the body whereas triglycerides are the lipids.
Steroid is a hormone which serve as a chemical messanger whereas at the base of triglyceride is glycerol which contains 3 carbon chain with OH group and each oxygen of glycerol is joined to ester.
