Mass extinction refers to the eradication of a set of population from a given geographical area due to biological or non-biological reasons. Some of the possible reasons for a mass extinction can be found as below:

  1. Sudden calamities such as volcanic erruption, tsunami, tornado etc.
  2. Sudden spread of an epidemic in the area
  3. Massive intoxication of vital supplies of air, food or water

All of these reasons are capable of generating a mass extinction and hence, eradication of a population.
