GENETICS
A trait is caused by a rare recessive autosomal allele with full penetrance. Practically all individuals with the trait result from matings between normal individuals. What would be the expected concordance values for monozygotic and dizygotic twins?
A. |
100% for both types of twins |
|
B. |
100% for monozygotic twins and 75% for dizygotic twins |
|
C. |
100% for monozygotic twins and 25% for dizygotic twins |
|
D. |
about 50% for both types of twins |
|
E. |
100% for monozygotic twins and 50% for dizygotic twins |
Answer- 100% for monozygotic twins and 25% for dizygotic twins .
Concordance is the inheritance of a trait in both the individual twins in a pair. In monozygotic twins ,as the name suggests two embryos arise from a single zygote so 100% genes are shared. While in dizygotic twins 50% genes are shared. So if both parents are normal , the is 50% chance of passing down the defective alleles . Of which there is 50% chance that the trait will be shared by both twins in the pair . So totally 25% chance the twins will have the sutosomal revessive trait
