Describe the reactions of aerobic cellular respiration

Describe the reactions of aerobic cellular respiration

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer.

To summarise aerobic cellular respiration ia -

C6H12O2 + 6O2 ------------ >. 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + energy.

Aerobic cellular respiration is a series of multiple reactions , the first step is glycolysis . In glycolysis glucose is broken down by a series of reactions to form a 3 carbon compound pyruvate in cytosol , which is then converted to a 2 carbon compound acetyl coA by the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase . This step is the linking step between glycolysis and krebs cycle.

The acetyl coA so formed enters Krebs cycle in the mitochondria and undergoes several redox reactions and is released as carbon dioxide and water and releases energy in the form of NADH, FADH2 , GTP etc .

Now both NADH and FADH2 are electron carriers which carry epectron to the last step in cellular respiration which is electron transport chain and donate it , the electrons are shuttled between many complexes ,this free energy creates a proton pump gradient wacross which H+ ions move , this is called chemiosmosis ,and it forms an electrochemical gradient and causes ATP synthase to phosphorylate ADP to form ATP ,the energy currency of cell which is used by muscle cells for movements.

If this helps please give it a positive rating thank you!

Some explanations of glycolysis, lactic acid fermentation and aerobic cellular respiration seem to indicate that your cells SWITCH between the two options to finish glycolysis: lactic acid fermentation OR cellular respiration. This is not the case! Your cells do not choose EITHER lactic acid fermentation OR aerobic cellular respiration. Therefore, a better explanation might be: “If a cell is only getting 75% as much O2 as it needs to make enough ATP through aerobic cellular respiration, then (what %?) of...
