  1. Based on the initial concentrations of water inside and outside the dialysis tubing, what can you conclude about the direction of osmosis? Explain.
  2. what can you conclude about:
    1. The dialysis of glucose?
    1. The dialysis of starch?

Answer #1

In this case, it will depends on the concentration of water inside and outside the dialysis tubing at the beginning of the experiment. Remember that water will flow from the less concentrated side of solute to the most concentrated side of solute.

In both cases (glucose and starch) this statement will be applied. So, you need to observe your results. If the dialysis tubing lost water, the outside was much more concentrated that the inside of the tube. If the dialysis tube gained water, the dialysis tube was more concentrated that the outside.

Dialysis tubing comes in different ratings for permeability, depending on how big the holes are in the tubing. You are a dialysis technician and you must choose the right tubing for your patient. You choose the one with the pores that are just large enough to allow glucose to pass through but not larger molecules. Once the blood has passed through the machine and is back in the patient, identify which of the following substances will have been filtered from...

Diffusion of gases across a permeable membrane 1. How long did it take the O2 levels to become about equal outside and inside the cell? What happened to those levels after they became about equal over the additional 10 seconds? Why did this happen? My answer: It took 6 seconds to become equal. After they became about equal over the additional 10 seconds they fluctuate back and forth as equal equilibrium is achieved. 2.Cell use O2 and produce CO2 as...
