Homework Answers

Answer #1

There are 9 steps of wastewater treatment. These are-

1)- collection-collect the wastewater from local river , lake etc.

2)-screening - screen out the large items from water. Large items trapped on screen.

3)- chemical addition- chemicals are added to help the particles floating in water clumps together form a heavier.

4)- coagulation- coagulant is added to provide quick mixing.

5)- sedimentation- the large particles are settled out in bottom and then removed these particles.

6)- filtration- clarify water enter into filter from top. Smaller particles are removed.

7)- disinfection- to remove bacteria and virus disinfectant are added. Most common disinfectant is chlorination.

8)- storage- after disinfection process water is stored.

9)- distribution- the stored water is pushed through underground pipelines.

Wastewater treatment The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council with a population of 350,000 and several industries discharged 11 MGD of raw sewage into an activated sludge system treatment plant. The average concentration of BOD5 is 240 mg/L and the suspended solids is 260 mg/L. If the average domestic per capita sewage flow is 225 L/c.day, what is the average flow of the industrial wastewater (in MGD)? marks) If the average BOD5 load from the domestic sewage is 55gcapita-1day-1, determine the average...

environmental engineering wastewater treatment. waste water treatment. 1- In a 2 steps cascade aeration, each step increases oxygen concentration from 10 % to 30 % of saturation level. If the initial oxygen concentration is 20 % of saturation level and minimum oxygen is required to be 5 mg/L at the end of aeration, is the system efficient or not? Show your calculations. Draw a neat treatment flow chart for a municipal wastewater treatment. Treated wastewater will be discharged into Red River (Fargo, ND). Please label all units and show flow directions. Also indicate (in the flow chart) where sludge will be generated and chemicals will be added. You can use either a trickling filter or activated sludge process as your biological treatment process. A BOD test was conducted on the unchlorinated effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment plant at 20°C. The wastewater portion added to a 300-mL BOD bottle was 30 mL, and the dissolved oxygen (DO) values listed below were measured using a dissolved-oxygen probe. No seed was added to the bottles. What is the BOD value for each “valid” sample? Valid samples are ones that do not violate the following two rules: 1. DOf is less than 1.0 mg/L (unclear if...

Two towns, located directly across from each other, operate municipal wastewater treatment plants situated along a river. The river flow is 50 million gal. per day (50 MGD). Coliform counts are used as a measure to determine a water%u2019s ability to transmit disease to humans. The coliform count in the river upstream of the two treatment plants is 3 coliforms/100 mL. Town 1 discharges 3 MGD of wastewater with a coliform count of 50 coliforms/100 mL, and town 2 discharges...
