What is anaerobic respiration? When is it needed and how does this relate to oxygen debt?
Anaerobic respiration is an enzyme- controlled, partial breakdown of organic compounds (food) without using oxygen and releasing only a fraction of the energy. This end products are not entirely inorganic. Very less amount of energy is released during anaerobic respiration process than during aerobic respiration process. It is because glucose breakdown is incomplete. Anaerobic respiration process produces an oxygen debt. It is the amount of oxygen needed to oxidise lactic acid to water and carbon dioxide
