why do polar bodies form?
During the oogenesis stage when the fertilized egg further divides into the ovum, sometimes polar bodies are formed that have small cells which are consist of a haploid set of chromosomes are formed. In general, they cannot fertilize.
For the production of egg cells, when the process of meiosis is
completed cells undergo cytokinesis and unequal division of cells
occurs which gives rise to polar bodies. As cytoplasm gets divided
and each daughter cells get equal share and develop into egg. The
polar bodies thus get only a minute amount of cytoplasm and are not
able to survive as they lack other factors of growth to develop
them into a zygote. Thus, with programmed cell death, these get
eliminated.
