TFIIH phosphorylates the CTD of RNA polymerase II at position #5 in the repeation heptapeptides. Which amino acid is phosphoeylated during the process?

A) alanine

B) cysteine

C) threonine

D) serine

E) Glycine

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The hepatapeptides sequence which is present at the CTD tail of of RNA polymerase is Tyr-Ser-Pro-Thr-Ser-Pro-Ser(YSPTSPS). The N- terminal side of this sequence start from Tyr and from where numbering is started.so at the 5th position serine Amino acid is present. This phosphorylation by TFIIH helps in capping of the newly synthesis mRNA. you can refer to the given diagram.option D is correct.

The translocation rate of RNA polymerase II is 30 nucleotides per second for a gene you study that is 50,000 nucleotides in length. This gene contains 3 exons and 2 introns. The translocation rate of the ribosome on the resulting mRNA is also 30 nucleotides per second. Assuming that the translocation rates of RNA polymerase II and the ribosome are the rate limiting steps in their respective processes, which process (transcription or translation) do you expect to produce more product...
