Which of the following is a correct description of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus?

a. it has DNA genome that encodes for over 50 genes

b. it has RNA genome that encodes for over 50 genes

c. None of the answer choices are correct

d. It has an RNA genome that encodes for less than 5 genes

e. It has an DNA genome that encodes for less than 5 genes

Homework Answers

Answer #1

SARS-CoV-2 ( severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus strain 2) is a positive sence single stranded RNA virus benlongs to betacoronavirus sub family . It has largest genome structure among all RNA viruses . The genome of corona viruses ranging from 26-32 kb in length (approx 30000 bases) containing 15 genes which are responsible for various protein coding (among which 4 are structural main protein)

SARS-CoV - 2 has a genome that encodes for genes

Option a is wrong as it is a RNA virus.

Option b is wrong as genome of SARS-CoV - 2, encodes less than 50 genes ( approx 15 gene)

Option d is wrng as SARS-CoV genome encodes more than 5 genes. (approx 15 gene))

Option e is wrong as it is a RNA virus.

option c is right as no option is applicable .
