Pine cones can be differentiated based on the diameter of the
cone .
If the diameter is small then the age of cone will be 1 year .
If the diameter is large then age might be above 2 years.
The resin content in the younger cone will be more compared to
older cones.
The weight of the pine cone increases as its proceeds through
the age . That is 1 year will be lighter and cones that are above 2
years will be heavier.
This is mainly because of accumulation of nutrition in the
cones.
The germination effects are greater for pine cones that are
large . So 2 year cones have greater germination percentage than 1
year cone.
So, as the age of the cone progresses the size, diameter ,
germination capacity and nutrition of the cone increases .
