1. Periosteum. (Peri- around, osteo- bones) It is a tough and thin membrane surrounding the outside of the bones that provides protection, nutrition, mediates development and repair after any injury.
2. Lacunae. Lacunae are small spaces present in bones and cartilages, that contain the bone cells (osteocytes) and cartilage cells (chondrocytes).
3. Mast cells. The granules present in mast cells are important during inflammatory and hypersensitivity reactions. When IgE immunoglobulin carrying an allergen binds to the mast cells through the Fc portion, degranulation of mast cells occurs, which releases histamine and initiates inflammatory response.
