Homework Answers

Answer #1

Q-1) CO2

CO2 can undergo simple diffusion through a phospholipid bilayer. Simple diffusion means the movement of particles through the membrane with no assistance from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. Small nonpolar molecules like CO2 and Oxygen can pass through the cell membrane by simple diffusion. Besides this hydrophobic molecules like lipids can also pass through the membrane by simple diffusion.

Q-2) Hypotonic

If a cell has more concentration of solutes inside than outside, it is in a hypotonic environment.

Q-3) Hypertonic

If a cell has less concentration of solutes inside than outside, it is in a Hypertonic environment.

Q-4) Isotonic

If a cell has equal concentration of solutes inside than outside, it is in an isotonic environment.

Diffusion of gases across a permeable membrane 1. How long did it take the O2 levels to become about equal outside and inside the cell? What happened to those levels after they became about equal over the additional 10 seconds? Why did this happen? My answer: It took 6 seconds to become equal. After they became about equal over the additional 10 seconds they fluctuate back and forth as equal equilibrium is achieved. 2.Cell use O2 and produce CO2 as...

QUESTION 1 What material can we use to mask an implantation (control where implantation will occur) 1. Photoresist is the preferred mask since it is easiest to create and to remove, and as long as it is thick enough it is effective at blocking the implant when it is not needed. 2. A patterned metal film is the best mask since not only can it block an implant it can also help drain off the implanted charge. An oxide, nitride,...
