Describe the appearance and types of the bacteria colonies, using the colony morphology characteristics you have used earlier.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans) The bacterial colonies can be described on the basis of morphological characterstics that we observe in the bacterial colony-

1)Margin of the colony-It can be

Curled, entire(smooth ),lobate, filamentous, undulate and erose.

2)On basis of elevation seen in colony-Pulvinate ,flat, raised ,covex.

3)Shape pf the colony-filamentous,punctiform,round,irregular,spindle,rhizoid

4)Colour of colonies-

Otange, black, white, opaque, red, pink, brown, milky

5)Texture of colony-

Dry-mucoid, shiny viscous, slimy moist, matte brittle, translucent, irisdiscent

6)Size-small,medium,large

So a combinatiom of these characters helps to describe the appearance and morphology of colonies.

1) You have cloned the human Insulin (Ins) gene into the pDrive plasmid, and transformed bacteria using (0.25 ug) of this pDrive/Ins (as per the protocol described in this lab). Using the information below, calculate the number of molecules of Insulin that have been cloned into your entire culture after 4 hours of growth after incubation. a. The transformation efficiency of this reaction is 105 colonies/ µg intact pDrive/Ins plasmid. b. pDrive plasmid has a copy number of 100 molecules...

You have isolated a clinical sample and carried out a gram stain on the bacteria in hopes to identify what is causing the illness in your patient. The gram stain showed a gram-positive staphylococcus. You have narrowed down the possible bacteria to only those used in this lab. What are the possible bacteria that you have isolated? If there is more than one possible bacteria, what test would you use to differentiate between them? the possible bacteria used is: Staphylococcus...
