Question

List two similarities between microtubules and actin filaments, and two differences.

List two similarities between microtubules and actin filaments, and two differences.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer. Microfilaments are basically composed of the actin protein. These filaments are a part of cytoskeleton.

SIMILARITIES

  1. Actin and Microtubules both are the part of the cytoskeleton.
  2. They both help in providing a cell specific shape and organising other parts of the cell.

DISSIMILARITIES

  1. Actin usually combines with the protein myosin and helps in the muscle contraction, whereas, microtubules are composed of the tubulin protein that helps in the spindle fiber formation during cell division.
  2. Microfilaments are composed of the actin protein also helps in the division of the cytoplasm or cytokinesis as soon as nuclear division completes. On the other hand, microtubules are present in a specific pattern in cilia and flagella and help in ciliary and flagellary movement, respectively.
