Which lineages include venomous snakes? Include a phylogenetic tree that shows that. Are venom and fangs seen in one lineage or several? Is there convergent evolution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

venomous snakes belong to the lineages of serpentes .They are capable of producing venom to immobilize their prey .

Snakes can be put in four group based on their teeth which directly correlate with venom and lineage. Aglyphous snakes are commonly called fangless; opisthoglyphous snakes rear-fanged or back-fanged; and both Proteroglyphous and Solenoglyphous snakes are referred to as front-fanged.

Venom is actually a form of saliva. It is believed that snake has developed venom for killing its prey , for food related activity or to defend itself from threats.

It is smart to use more than one gene when creating a phylogenetic tree because... Some genes NEVER accumulate mutations. We must use several genes in order to find the ones that actually change over time, and thus can be used to make a phylogenetic tree. We just do it because all the smart geneticists are using more than one gene. It's scientific peer pressure. Different genes will show the same degree of relatedness between species. We just use multiple...

Which of the following is seen as evidence of choanoflagellates being sister to the rest of animals? Primitive single-celled animals have the same mode of reproduction as choanoflagellates. Several early-diverging animal lineages have collar cells but they are not found in any other non-animal lineage. Both early animals and choanoflagellates move using flagella. Choanoflagellates show signs of having primitive neurons, something only found in animals. Some genes of choanoflagellates contain domains that are clearly homologous to those of animals. The...

SOME DRAWBACK OF BLACK-SCHOLES Briefly discuss here some difficulties associated with the Black Scholes formula, which is widely used to calculate the price of an option. For example, consider a European call option for a stock. This is the right to buy a specific number of shares of a specific stock on a specific date in the future, at a specific price (the exercise price, also called the strike price). If all these quantities are fixed, the question becomes: what...
