During exercises, the following physiological changes are caused to enhance the oxygen delivery by hemoglobin.
Select one:
a. increases in 2,3-BPG.
b. decreases in pH.
c. Both of the above.
d. Neither.
Ans :-) option c. Both of the above.
2,3-BPG means 2,3-biphosphoglycerate. It decreases the haemoglobin affinity for oxygen thereby shifting entire oxygen binding curve to right side. It is allosteric inhibitor of oxygen. Ultimately this mechanism increases oxygen release from RBC under circumstances where it is needed most.
During exercise, the muscles uses up oxygen as they convert chemical energy in glucose to mechanical energy. This O2 comes from haemoglobin in the blood. These chemical changes, unless offset by other physiological functions causes ph of blood to drop.
