How can argonaute proteins be used in genetic engineering/biotechnology? Can you give some examples?
Argonaute proteins are highly specified binding molecules that
accomodates the small RNA components(micro RNAs), they regulate
gene expression and defend against foreign pathogen invasion by
small RNA- mediated gene silencing pathways. they play a major role
in RNA silencing process, as essential component of RNA induced
silencing complex called RNA interference. argonaute
proteins bind different classes of small non-coding RNAs. small
RNAs guide argonaute proteins to their targets through base
pairing, that leads to translation inhibition.
examples of argonaute proteins include,
Ago1-4(ago like family) for homosapiens host
PIWI 1-4(PIWI like family) for homosapiens host
Ago 1-10(ago like family) for arabidopsis thalina host
