The regulation of gene expression in a cell to prevent the expression of a certain gene is called Gene silencing. In eukaryotes,a wide range of biological processes are regulated through gene silencing. It includes, organ formation, development etc,.Gene silencing occur during transcrptiion or translation. When gene gets silenced, their expression becomes reduced.

Gene silencing is considered as a gene knockdown mechanism since the methods are used to silence genes,

Methods used to silence genes are being used to produce therapeutics to fight cancer and other diseases.

Insulin is produced in pacreas, but you have human skin cells to work with. 2.) You have constructed a DNA probe, using the amino acid sequence of insulin (a short piece of DNA carrying a label, such as radioactivity, which can hybridize with your target DNA) to find your target gene.
