which microbes will grow on the tsa media and explain

Answer #1

Trypticase soy agar or tryptone soy agar (TSA) is a general pruopose, non-selective medium used for culturing a wide range of micro-organisms (both fastidious and non-fastidious). It composed of:

Panceratic digest of casien- 15gm

Peptic digest of soyabean meal- 5gm

Sodium chloride- 5gm

Agar- 15gm

pH 7.3+/- 0.2

Casien and soyabean meal provides amino acids and other nitrogenous substances for the growth of microbes while the sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium.

This medium is used for colony morphology, developing a pure culture and its storage.

The microbes generally grown on tsa media are Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus brasiliensis.

However. tsa can be supplemented with yeast extract or horse blood foe the growth of fastidious microbes such as Listeria monocytogenes and Haemophilus influenza respectively.

Choose the correct statement that refers to either beneficial or pathogenic microbes: All microbes are beneficial but some are considered pathogenic because the host immune system does not recognize it. All microbes are pathogenic but we still tolerate some species without showing disease symptoms. Beneficial microbes develop a symbiotic relationship with the host and pathogenic microbes do not and cause disease symptoms in the host. Pathogenic bacteria help hosts utilize food sources, which they are not normally able to use.
