Triple sugar iron medium is a differential medium used for identification different enteric species.

A. Salmonella turns tsi media in to red colour with black precipitate -it indicates it ferments only glucose among other sugars and also reduces the sulfur.

B. Presence of salmonella in food samples is considered as unsafe for consumption. Conventional methods of detection are inoculation of food sample on selective media that is Xylose-Lysine-Desoxycholate (XLD) agar media to observe any growth or PCR methods using specific primer that selectivity amplify Salmonella DNA could also be employed.

C. Enterobacter turns tsi into yellow colour, with gas production. That means glucose fermented and gas produced with out sulfur reduction. E coli do the same
