Niche conservationism is the ability of an organism to retain its ancestral traits. We look at phylogenetic signal while defining this variable. Adaptive radiation is when a group of organism diversify from their ancestral species into another form. Adaptive radiation is a result of a change in the environmental conditions particularly with the availibility of resouces. E.g Darwin's Finches in the Galapagos archipelago which are thought to have evolved as a result of adaptive radiation in their beaks were modified according to their source of food.
