Briefly discuss the two primary characteristics of the adaptive immune system.

Answer #1

Answere : Adaptive immunity is an important part of the immune system. It is protection from an infectious disease agent that is mediated by B- and T- lymphocytes following exposure to specific antigen, and characterized by immunological memory.

Adaptive Immunity is highly specific and it has following major characteristics :

1) Antigenic Specificity : It is highly specific; recognizes and targets specific antigens
2) Diversity : It has immense diversity of lymphocytes and receptors, enabling the immune system to detect pathogens never before encountered.
3) Immunologic Memory : It has stronger and more rapid response to an antigen encountered previously.
4) Self/non-self recognition : It recognise self and non-self antigen in the human body.

Please rate the answere and if any doubt mention in comment section...

The following characteristics describe the receptors of the adaptive immune system (TCRs and BCRs) EXCEPT: a. Receptors with different specificities are present on a single cell to enable it to defeat different pathogens. b. Their diversity exceeds trillions of different receptors. c. TCRs and BCRs are generated by the same molecular mechanism (VDJ recombination), but they use their own separate gene segments. d. Their diversity is established in the bone marrow (BCR) and, respectively, the thymus (TCR).
