Why might the number of introns in a gene be different between plant species?

What features indicate which species are older plants?

What features indicate which species are younger (plants)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. Introns are important because the protein variety is greatly enhanced by alternative splicing in which introns take partly important roles. It producing multiple variant proteins from a single gene in a eukaryotic cell. Transcription initiation and termination processes are cellular processes that involve introns, as well, which need some sequence elements in introns to be correctly completed.

2. The older plants looks thick bark, lot of branch, flowers, fruits etc.

3. The younger plants are smooth stem, little stem, root has small rootlets etc.

A number of different types of mutations in the HBB gene can cause human ?-thalassemia, a disease characterized by various levels of anemia. Many of these mutations occur within introns or in upstream noncoding sequences. Explain why mutations in these regions often lead to severe disease, although they may not directly alter the coding regions of the gene. Select the three correct answers a. mutations in upstream sequences may cause frameshift and disrupt protein production b. introns may become exons...

In snapdragons, the plant height gene and the flower color genes are located on different chromosomes. Tall (T) is dominant to dwarf (t). Red flowers (FR) are incompletely dominant to white (FW), with the hybrid being pink. A homozygous tall-white is crossed to a homozygous dwarf-red,. The F1 plants are then self-fertilized to produce an F2 generation. a. What is the genotype and phenotype of the F1? b. What proportion of the F2 will have pink flowers? c. What proportion...

It is not uncommon to find different varieties of the same species of garden flower in which the different varieties have a different petal colors. Sometimes, they contain the same colored compound at the same concentration in each variety. The difference between the varieties is in the relative activity of one specific enzyme. What is the class of compounds, what is the enzyme, and why are the colors different?
