Ans. Enterococcus faecium belongs to the genus enterococcus. That are gram-negative bacteria which does not retain color in Gram staining method. In the gut of humans, it perform the function of commensalism ( one partner is benefited and other is not harmed)

On the other hand, they can be pathogenic. It causes diseases such as meningitis, endocarditis etc. For treating such pathogenic strains, antibiotics such as linezolid, tigecycline , steptogramins. Development of antibotitic resistance occurs in strains of Enterococcus faecium.
