Oct 4 antobody highly expressed in undifferentiated embryonic stem cells and cancer cells.It is a protien of 38,571 dalton mass with 2 isoforms and a member of POU transcription factor.Enhances protien stability, DNA binding and trans activating activity. Expressed in developing brain ,specific layers of cortex, olfactory bulbs, hippocampus and cerebellum in embryogenesis and low levels in adult brain tissue. Helps to maintain pluripotent potential and trigger tumor cell marker. It is the most recognised marker for the identification of totipotency of embryonic stem cells.Useful in immunochemistry and used in Western Blot band seen at 40KDa.Abberent expresson of this gene may leads to tumorogenesis in adult and special attention is required while handling the gene. Hence I think Oct 4 antibody very good for medical purposes but needs cent percent accuracy in the experiment..
