Using exponential growth and a rate of 0.2, what is the predicted population growth for 2010? (Remember, a generation size is 20 years so you will need to ignore 1980, 1997, and2005.)

1930-123188

1950-151683

1970-2033185

1980-224000

1997-266490

2005-295734

Let the population growth (N)

N = N0ert, where N0= is the initial population at time t,

                            t = is the number of years

                            r = is the rate of growth of population

Here, N0 = 123188 (initial population size) and r = 0.2. So we can put these values in the formula

If we take the generation size (t) in the given data is 20 years

Then the population would be

P = 123188e0.2x20 = 123188e4 ? 6725836

And

If we take the t=80 years since 2010

N= 123188e0.2t

P = 123188e0.2x80 = 123188e16 ? 1.0946622
