Syvlia P: Acute IgM = 4; Convalescent IgM=8

Does Sylvia have a current ( or very recent) Dengue infection? Why or why not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

For diagnosis of dengue ,two types of serum is taken one is acute sera which is taken as soon as after onset of infection and other is convalescent sera which is taken at time when patient is recovered from disease.

If IgM antibodies is basis for diagnosis of dengue.so if convalescent IgM value is negative or low then it shows that infection occurred in past . Positive value of convalescent IgM shows that dengue infection occurred recently.

So IgM value of Syvlia is positive it means that she have recent dengue infection.
