you have crossed red flowers to green flowers and seen the following outcome All Brown *assume that red and green are both recessive and that red is epistatic to green. What is the F1 genotype and the expected F2 outcome

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The inheritance pattern is recessive epistasis. The traits are controlled by two genes, each gene with two alleles.

A_B_ = Brown

aaB_ or aabb = red

A_bb = Green

aaBB (red) x AAbb (green)----Parents

aaBB genotype produces only one type of gametes with genotype, aB.

AAbb genotype produces only one type of gametes with genotype, Ab.

So the genotype of F1 hybrid is AaBb with brown phenotype.

F1= Brwon (AaBb)

F1 x F1 = AaBb x AaBb

AB Ab aB ab
AB AABB (brown) AABb (brown) AaBB (brown) AaBb (brown)
Ab AABb (brown) AAbb (green) AaBb (brown) Aabb (green)
aB AaBB (brown) AaBb (brown) aaBB (red) aaBb (red)
ab AaBb (brown) Aabb (green) aaBb (red) aabb (red)

F2 phenotypic ratio = Brown : Green : Red = 9:3:4

In peas yellow is dominant and green is recessive. You have crossed green peas to yellow peas and obtained all yellow peas. Indicate the genotype of each parent and the genotype of the F1 progeny. You self-cross the F1 and get 115 individuals 32 green. Give the expected outcome for this cross and perform Chi Squared analysis to determine if this is likely a Mendelian trait (be sure to give expected and observed, show your calculations, and indicate your degrees...

Mendel crossed a pure breeding tall pea plant having red flowers with a pure breeding short pea plant having white flowers. All the F1 plants were tall with red flowers. He then selfed the F1 plants and the F2 plants had new combination of traits. Using a punnet square, show the phenotypes and genotypes of the F2 plants.

An F2 flowerbed has a total of 929 plants. You observed/counted 705 red flowers and 224 purple (in these flowers, red flower color is dominant to purple). Based on your knowledge of Mendelian genetics, what would be the genotype for both of the F1 parents that were crossed to produce these F2 plants (write a tentative hypothesis)? Test your hypothesis using chi square analysis and probability values. Remember, because only two traits are examined in this problem, the degrees of...

In an ornamental plant, silver-colored flowers (s) are recessive to blue-colored flowers (S), red leaves (r) are recessive to green leaves (R), and long stems (l) are recessive to short stems (L). All three genes involved are located on the same chromosome. Two true-breeding strains were crossed to produce an F1 plant. Then, this F1 plant was test-crossed to a plant with silver flowers, red leaves, and long stems, to produce the following progeny: progeny phenotype count of progeny silver...

The seeds from Mendel’s tall plants were round and yellow, all three characters due to a dominant gene at each of three independently assorting loci. The recessive genotypes dd, ww, and gg produce dwarf plants with wrinkled and green seeds, respectively., (a) If a pure, tall wrinkled and yellow variety is crossed with a pure dwarf, round, green variety, what phenotypic ratio is expected in the F1 and F2? Purple flowers versus red flowers and long pollen versus round pollen are two traits in a sweet pea plant. When a true breeding purple/long pollen plant is crossed with a true-breeding red/round pollen plant, the F1 generation offspring all have purple flowers and long pollen. When the F1 generation is bred to itself via human-directed fertilization, a ratio of 7 : 4.9 : 4.9 : 0.05, purple/long : red/long : purple/round : red/round is noted in the F2 generation. What...
