Numerous technologies have been developed in the current era in terms of molecular biology. But one technology that stands out is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).

It is a method widely used to produce a lot of copies of a specific DNA sample. It has a step called Amplification which helps in limiting the amount of sample DNA. It was developed by Kary Mullis in 1984. PCR uses temperature changes for amplification which is called thermal cycling.

It is easy and simple to use. It can be used to analyza alterations of gene expression levels in tumours. Many diseases are studied using PCR.

But there is one main limitation to PCR. It requires information about target sequences in order to generate primers causing selective amplification
