How does a protein found in the Golgi complex can reveal ER stress?
The role of the endoplasmic reticulum is to properly fold a protein with all the necessary modifications such as glycosylation and disulfide bonding formation. After a complete folding and modification, a protein is sent to the Golgi complex for further packaging. During the ER stress, the activity of the protein folding is saturated. In this state, endoplasmic reticulum unable to properly fold the protein and pass the unfolded protein to the Golgi complex. So a unfold protein in Golgi complex can reveal ER stress.
