3. Compare and contrast light-dependent reactions and light-independent reactions.

3. Compare and contrast light-dependent reactions and light-independent reactions.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Compare and contrast light-dependent reactions and light-independent reactions:

Both Light dependent and Light independent reactions are used to complete the process of photosynthesis.

Light dependent reactions Light independent reactions
It also known as light reactions. It also known as dark reactions.
It occurs in thylakoid membranes of chloroplasts. It occurs in the stroma of chloroplasts.
Light energy is absorbed by photosystems PS-I and PS-II. CO2 present in the atmosphere is absorbed.
End products are ATP and NADPH. End products of light reaction are used up to synthesize sugar.

One of the "Essential Skills" of our 10th lecture (Photosynthesis) was - "be able to compare/contrast the processes of oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondrion and the light-dependent reactions in the chloroplasts (follow the energy and electrons in both)." Focus your attention on the electron transport chain in mitochondria and the photosystems in chloroplasts. Both of these involve electron carriers (NADH or NADPH) and both are coupled to ATP synthesis somehow. With a focus on the energy and electrons, describe the...

During the light-independent reactions of photosynthesis: G3Ps get rearranged to make 5-carbon sugars with phosphates for every three CO2, 7 G3Ps are made the main product is 3-phosphoglycerate a single glucose molecule can leave the cycle but the rest go back in a proton-motive force directly powers reduction of CO2
