Pick one of the following protein molecules in the electron transport chain: FMN, CoQ, or cytochrome C. Explain how a deficiency in this molecule could affect the electron transport chain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cytochrome C is functionally involved in electron transport of mitochondria, the electron liberate from the oxidation of higher energy intermediate such as NADH and FADH2 , as the electron moves through these intermediate membrane proteins liberate energy each time, these energy are responsible for accumulation of hydrogen ion . And the election reaches ultimately to oxygen molecular , along with hydrogen ion form water in lumen of mitochondria.

Above all the process done, only due to presence of transport protein , if there are any difficiency in these protein , oxidative phosphorylation is abandend .

Cytochrome is the part of the path for synthesis of ATP. The role of cytochrome C to carry election from one complex of integral membrane protein of inner mitochondrial membrane to another.
